What I collect and why
- Messages and workshop enquiries. Your name, organisation, email and what you tell me. I use them to reply and, if we decide to work together, to plan that work.
- The readiness check. Your answers and any contact details you give. I use them to show where you stand and, if you ask, to talk your results through.
- Requests for a copy of a paper. Your name, email and the title you ask for, used only to send it.
- The newsletter. If you subscribe, your email is used to send you new essays. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
I rely on my legitimate interest in responding to people who contact me, or on taking steps you’ve asked for before we agree to work together. For the newsletter, I rely on your consent. Please don’t send sensitive information, such as details about your health, through the forms.
Who else handles it
A small number of trusted service providers help me run this website and its forms: website hosting, form handling and, if you subscribe, newsletter delivery. They only process your information to provide their service to me. I don’t sell your information or share it with anyone else, unless the law requires it.
Some of these providers may store information outside the UK. Where they do, it’s protected by safeguards recognised under UK data protection law. If you subscribe to the newsletter, the newsletter service may also hold your details under its own privacy policy, which you’ll see when you sign up.
How long I keep it
- Messages and enquiries: up to two years after we last spoke, unless we work together.
- If we work together: for as long as the work needs, and business records such as invoices for six years, as tax law requires.
- Readiness check answers: up to 12 months.
- Requests for a copy of a paper: deleted within three months.
- Newsletter: until you unsubscribe.
Cookies and analytics
This website doesn’t use advertising or tracking cookies. I use privacy-friendly analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. It doesn’t use cookies or collect personal information, and it can’t identify you. Some embedded tools, such as the readiness check form, may set cookies they need to work.
Your rights
You can ask me to show you the information I hold about you, correct it, delete it, limit how I use it, or send you a copy. You can object to how I use it and, where I rely on your consent, withdraw it at any time. Email john@johnpmills.com and I’ll respond within one month.
Complaints
If you’re unhappy with how I’ve handled your information, please tell me first so I can put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes
I’ll update this page if anything changes. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
